We have a 73 year old male hospice patient residing in his home in woodland. Patient is alert however experiences episodes of dementia. He ambulates utilizing the help of a wheelchair / walker. Family is requesting volunteer services for caregiver respite on Sundays so the wife, who is the primary caretaker, can run weekly errands. 

We have a 55 year old male hospice patient currently residing in a home in winters with his siblings. Patient is alert, oriented, and able to ambulate on his own, however does have some episodes of confusion. Per his sister, patient enjoys playing cards, board games, playing tick-tack-toe, and other activities. Per medical social worker, family could benefit from a volunteer due to potential caregiver burnout. Patient would also benefit from more socialization.

We are having Meals on Wheels deliver our patients at Joshua's House their meals, however there is a lacking in fresh foods, esp. produce.  We need an outgoing volunteer to contact farmers, the ones that do CSA boxes to donate a box once in a while to Joshuas House.  Might you have some time to reach out and arrange for some local produce for our Hospice Home- Joshua's House?

90 year old female living in a facility in Davis needs a volunteer. IF you have a small dog, that makes this client very very happy!  Consider this opportunity if your fuzzy friend can bring joy to someone nearing the end of their life. 

88 year old female with dementia and hard of hearing. This is a pt. that needs someone to just sit near by so the family can have respite. Pt. will be asleep. If you like to read a book or even study, and at the same time provide the family support- this is your match!  The family needs a friday morning visitor so they can run to the grocery store. Respite is so helpful for our YC families!

86 year old female patient living in Woodland hopes for a volunteer.  This is a hybrid of respite and companionship as the pt. will interact some days and not other, so expect both!  Might you be willing to support this family please?

Might you be willing to pick up produce and flowers and bring them weekly to Joshua's House from our offices?  This could also be a shared job, ideally 4-5 people, going once a month.  If you can drive over there, it takes about 25 minutes, depending upon traffic.  It woudl be lovely! This is a wonderful internship or volunteer opportunity for those looking to work with children and teens in a social service setting. The groups will be modeled after the Dougy Center Model of Peer Grief Support. The youth that will be attending will have suffered a significant loss in their lives. Many will have experienced the loss of a parent or sibling.

Volunteer jobs: All adults will join in on the opening and closing circles along with the kids/teens.

At premeeting an adult will be assigned to an area to support kids during free time. Those areas are: Big Energy Space, Art Room, Music Area, Video Game/Board Game area Sand Tray/Water Play, Dramatic Play incl. Hospital Room, Doll House area. I would like to set up a schedule to have 4 adults as a minimum and up to 6 per group.

The structure of the groups are as follows:

1st and 3rd Sundays of every month

3-4:30 p.m.

Teen Group:

2:00 arrive at ADP for premeeting with adults & set up

3:00 kids arrive

3:15 opening circle

free time with lots of inside and outside activities

4:30-5:30 post meeting for adults and put away

72 year old male living is West Sac who is non-verbal has a family that needs a break.  This is a respite call out for one of you precious and generous volunteers.  The family would like a break sometime m-f in the mornings. West Sac is a quick drive accross the causeway, 15 mins from our offices, without traffic. So, it can be longer....but later morings it is pretty good!! Please consider giving this family a much needed break.

Wife & Daughter are requesting a doula for emotional support for themselves, potential engagement with patient and his acceptance, planning for EOL.  Family has been working with a doula who was out-of-state and feel they need someone in-person for the remainder of the journey. Doula will be of emotional support to wife, daughter, and Son (out-of-state). Assist in coordination of EOL journey and peperwork.

We have a 96 year old male patient residing at home in Woodland diagnosed with CHF. Patient is alert and oriented.

We have a 77 year old male hospice patient residing in a home in Winters. Pt served in the army in Vietnam. He misses his former activity level. He is alert and oriented. Family is requesting a volunteer for companionship.

We have an 86 year old male hospice patient residing at home in Vacaville. Patient experiences confusion due to their diagnosis and uses a walker/wheelchair to ambulate. Family is requesting a volunteer to provide caregiver relief.

59 year old female, lives in her home in Winters with her husband. She is completely bedbound, but alert. This family needs visits only Thursday morinings. The visits are for the husband's respite and companionship for the patient.   The Pt. loves to watch Hallmark movies and cooking shows, she used to be quite a cook.

The Adult Day Program (ADP) is held at Galileo Place. It is an adult day facility that provides respite care, socialization, and enrichment activities for elderly adults and adults with mild cognitive impairments.

The hours of the ADP are Mon-Fri 9:00 am-3:00pm.

The Adult Day Program is looking for volunteers who would like to socialize and support the clients attending ADP.  You will work with the volunteer coordinator at Galileo Place to find your fit at the program.

Client's wife would like a volunteer for her husband for socialization and to provide her some respite. Client would like to go for walks with his dog and the volunteer. Client would also enjoy going out for coffee with the volunteer. He prefers an older male or female volunteer.

We have a 52 yo woman living alone in Davis who has neurogenerative changes, is legally blind, and will soon need surgery for colon cancer diagnosis which is hopefully caught early. Client has no family left and has limited support from friends.  Client may lose her seeing-eye dog due to her inability to walk and care for her dog (a volunteer has been matched through our Pet Peace of Mind program to assist her with caring for her dog). Going forward she would like a permanent volunteer for companionship, laundry, and occasional light meal prep.  Client attended UC Davis and wrote a thesis about guide dogs.

We have a 71yo woman living at home with protein calorie malnutrition who caregiver (daughter) is requesting a female volunteer for companionship, emotional support,caregiver relief, and shopping/errands. Patient lived with dogs in the home.

Substitute or Assistant Group/Event Facilitation

Help our team capture the responses collected by the caregivers we serve at one of the many retreats we offer. You will simply be coding responses into a smartsheet, using our laptop at the offices, an hour per event.

Scheduling to be handled by the Center for Loss and Hope's (CLH) staff, during office hours, the week after our retreats. The CLH staff will be there to help you know what to do.

An hour of your assistance is needed, the week of:

March 20th

May 8th

July 17th

September 18th

November 6th

Volunteers are needed to assist the Center for Loss & Hope on an ongoing basis, at the end of every month, to assemble and post their Grief Mailers to be sent out to clients.

The day of the week and Time are flexible depending on your schedule and that of the Center for Loss & Hope. 

Work is done onsite at the YoloCares' offices and occurs during regular operating hours, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Shifts are estimated to be 2-4 hours, 1 day a week, every month.
