This is a wonderful internship or volunteer opportunity for
those looking to work with children and teens in a social service setting. The groups will be modeled after the Dougy Center Model of
Peer Grief Support. The youth that will be attending will have suffered a
significant loss in their lives. Many will have experienced the loss of a
parent or sibling.
Volunteer jobs: All adults will join in on the opening and closing circles along with the kids/teens.
At premeeting an adult will be assigned to an area to support kids during free time. Those areas are: Big Energy Space, Art Room, Music Area, Video Game/Board Game area Sand Tray/Water Play, Dramatic Play incl. Hospital Room, Doll House area. I would like to set up a schedule to have 4 adults as a minimum and up to 6 per group.
The structure of the groups are as follows:
1st and 3rd Sundays of every month
3-4:30 p.m.
Location: Adult Day Center at Galileo Place, 1909 Galileo
Court Suite C
Teen Group:
2:00 arrive at ADP for premeeting with adults & set up
3:00 kids arrive
3:15 opening circle
free time with lots of inside and outside activities
4:15 closing circle
4:30 kids depart
4:30-5:30 post meeting for adults and put away
